Welcome Elizabeth Kidd – Our Newest Physical Therapist
Please join us in welcoming Elizabeth Kidd, who just graduated from ECU with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. As a recent DPT graduate, she has in-depth knowledge of the latest research and techniques. She also earned an Athletic Training degree from UNC-W, where she worked with the women’s soccer and basketball teams.
Elizabeth also continues our tradition of having athletes treating athletes: she played basketball and tennis for the Chatham Central High School Bears, winning back-to-back state championships in basketball. She enjoys playing basketball, tennis, and golf in her spare time.
Cathy Busby featured in Carolina Parent article
In her article Weighty Matters for Young Athletes in the May issue of Carolina Parent, author Carol McGarrahan quotes Cathy Busby extensively on the importance of strength training, including:
“Everybody used to say kids shouldn’t strength train at all,” says Busby, who has noted an increased interest and acceptance of resistance training. Most of her clients at Physical Solutions are 11 years old or older.
"Now we have 10-year-olds who are in these intense physical activities, and you might think if you just train three times a week doing your sport you will be strong enough to do it, but most sports practices are spent learning the skills of that sport, especially at younger ages,” Busby says. “That training doesn’t necessarily make you stronger, so whatever inherent weakness you started out with you will probably continue to have.”
